Our core competencies are in mathematical modelling and actuarial science, which is complimented by a diverse blend of skills which includes computer programming, business consultancy, financial communications and regulation. 

 

Martyn Dorey

Martyn is an investment actuary, and the founder of Dorey Financial Modelling (DFM). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and consults in a non-delegated function to several investment clients representing over £1000bn of Assets Under Advice. He is an ex-President for the Chamber of Commerce in Guernsey. Martyn also consults to the States of Guernsey on economic, fiscal and demographic matters.

Prior to establishing Dorey Financial Modelling, Martyn was a senior consultant for over ten years at leading UK institutional investment businesses P-Solve/River & Mercantile, and was an investment actuary at Bacon & Woodrow, Aon and the Punter Southall Group, all in London.

Wendy Dorey

Wendy DoreyDirector

Wendy is an experienced professional in the financial services industry, with key competencies in business strategy, financial regulation, risk management and investment marketing and distribution. She is Director of Dorey Financial Modelling, a Commissioner for the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC), and a Non-Executive Director for Schroders (CI) Limited.

Wendy has over 20 years’ industry experience working for asset managers, pension consultants and retail banks in the UK, Guernsey and France. She has worked for a number of leading asset managers : BNY Mellon, M&G Asset Management, Friends Ivory & Sime and Robert Fleming/Save & Prosper. She has also consulted to the Defined Contribution Consulting arm of the Punter Southall Group, and obtained retail banking experience at Lloyds bank and Le Credit Lyonnais. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and qualified as a Chartered Director in 2020. She is also a former Chair of the Guernsey Branch of the Institute of Directors.

Sally Diamond

With over 30 years’ experience of project management, Sally has held senior positions at both Guernsey and Jersey Post and was department head within the States of Guernsey. More recently, she was a business analyst at Northern Trust in Guernsey, as project lead for the development and integration of new business products and processes for Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) clients.

Sally’s career has been focused on managing operations teams and bringing people together through programmes of change; she thrives in dynamic environments and builds strong relationships with customers and stakeholders alike. 

Mattias Holmes
Analyst
Mattias Holmes Analyst

Mattias joined DFM after graduating from Lancaster University with a BSc in Economics. During his final year he focussed on Econometrics, Behavioural, Applied Macro, Public Economics and Industrial Organisation. He has a strong mathematical background and brings an economic overlay into the team.

Outside of DFM, Mattias is a qualified Ski instructor, a keen sailor and is fluent in Danish.

Robert Whitfield

Robert joined DFM after graduating from the University of Warwick with a BSc in Mathematics. During his final year he focused primarily on modules in Applied Mathematics: Theory of Ordinary Differential Equations, Bifurcations, Catastrophes and Symmetry and Combinatorics. Before joining DFM, Robert spent a year working as a GCSE mathematics tutor. He is interested in the real-world uses of mathematics and is studying to become a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Robert enjoys running, football, cooking and ancient history; he is also fluent in Polish.

Chris Handy

Chris joined DFM after graduating from Oakland University USA, with BSc in Finance and an MBA concentrated in Finance. During his studies, he focused primarily on models in Finance: Investment analysis, financial modelling, asset allocating, and international financial management. While at University, Chris played NCAA D1 college golf and travelled across America playing at the highest level of amateur tournaments. He is interested in the real-world application of mathematics and finance and is studying to become a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Chris enjoys golfing, football, running and Formula 1. 

Richard Thorburn

Richard joined DFM after graduating with a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton. His research focused on the development of econometric models used to forecast economic variables with high dimensional data sets. Prior to this, he completed his MSc in Social Research Methods and BSc in Economics and Actuarial Science, also at the University of Southampton. He is interested in statistical methodologies in a wide range of applications as well as economic modelling and is studying to become a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

Outside of DFM, Richard enjoys playing chess, athletics, and volunteering at local running events.  

Damian Mitcham

Damian MitchamConsultant

Damian Mitcham – Consultant, BA, IMA Actuarial Student, has over 20 years’ risk and investment consulting experience and provides expert advice to insurance companies and pension schemes. Damian has worked at several consulting practices prior to joining Dorey Financial Modelling, including DWA, Aon, P-Solve and RPC Consulting. He has also worked with Towers Watson on pensions, insurance and bank ALMs as an independent consultant. 

Damian complements the theory of his actuarial exams with a deep technical expertise that he applies to our clients. 

His primary roles have been acting as a risk specialist, project and client relationship manager and auditor on key projects.   

Alex Christou

Alex was a Founder partner of Accenture where he served on the Board of Accenture UK and Ireland and was a Trustee Director of the firm’s DB and DC pension funds. His key business responsibilities during his 24 year career at Accenture included the global leadership of Accenture’s Travel & Hospitality industry and the leadership of the UK and Ireland Health, Retail, Consumer, Industrial and Travel practices. 

In addition, Alex has served on the Political Board of the Guernsey Health and Social Care Department, helping shape a major change programme. Alex is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Directors, has a First Class honours Degree in Maths from Imperial College London and a DPhil in Mathematical Physics from Oxford University.
