Sustainability

Turning uncertainty into better decisions—for clients, communities, and the planet.

At Dorey Financial Modelling, sustainability is central to everything we do. From reducing environmental impact and supporting social well-being to embedding governance and transparency in every decision, we create measurable, lasting outcomes for investors, communities, and society.

Environmental

Environmental Sustainability

We integrate climate action and resource efficiency into our operations and client solutions:

  • Lowering our footprint: Since 2013, we’ve cut business travel emissions by over 95%. Employees commute by e-bike, scooter, or bicycle, nearly all meetings (internally and with clients) are virtual, IT systems are energy-efficient, and all reports are delivered digitally.
  • Resilience & efficiency: Digital-first, cloud-based operations reduce exposure to extreme weather or infrastructure disruption. In 2025, we moved core systems to Amazon Web Services (AWS), benefiting from highly efficient servers, advanced cooling, independent availability zones, and replication. This not only reduces our IT carbon footprint by up to 80% versus traditional enterprise data centres but also ensures business continuity and operational agility.
  • Sustainability Metrics: Beyond our operating model, our services provide transparency on carbon emissions, green revenue, and other environmental metrics, helping clients make more informed, sustainability-conscious decisions.

Social

Social Sustainability

People are at the heart of everything we do. Our services and business values are designed to promote social well-being, empower informed decisions, and support inclusive, resilient communities.

  • Employee well-being: Flexible hybrid and remote working, managed workloads, and a culture that prioritises rest and health ensure a balanced, resilient team. We foster active lifestyles, with colleagues participating in the Cambridge Half Marathon and local Swimarathon.
  • Professional growth: Employees are supported through actuarial (IFoA) and CFA programmes, with paid study leave, mentoring, and task allocation aligned to strengths. Interns receive hands-on ESG and financial modelling experience.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Recruitment and promotion are merit-based and bias-aware. Behavioural insights ensure roles match strengths, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and skill development.
  • Community engagement: We provide pro-bono support through initiatives such as the Government Economic Model (GEM), infrastructure modelling for Channel Islands projects, and volunteering via OnHand, tracking hours, CO₂e savings, and trees planted.
  • Financial empowerment: Concerto Financial Projector transforms retirement uncertainty into actionable insight. By modelling annuity and cashflow risk across multiple scenarios, it helps pension holders and institutions visualise potential outcomes, stress-test assumptions, and make informed, resilient financial decisions.

Planning for retirement often leaves hidden risks unquantified, particularly in annuities and investment cashflows. Concerto Financial Projector addresses this by combining advanced geometric mathematics with tailored risk profiling, transforming financial uncertainty into transparent, actionable insights. Clients can explore scenarios across multiple asset classes, stress-test assumptions, and visualise potential outcomes. Deployed to 30,000 pension holders, the tool empowers individuals and institutions to make informed decisions, enhance financial security, and strengthen long-term societal resilience.

Governance

Governance & Accountability

Strong governance underpins every aspect of Dorey Financial Modelling, ensuring integrity, accountability, and transparency across operations, client services, and the wider community:

  • Experienced leadership: Martyn Dorey, Managing Director, integrates ESG principles into client work, operations, and strategic decisions. His public roles — including past president of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce June 2016- June 2018, and presently elected to the Executive Committee of the Guernsey Funds & Investments Association — give him both regulatory and industry influence, shaping ethical standards and promoting transparency throughout the financial sector.
  • Complementary oversight: Wendy Dorey, Director, ensures governance and compliance with deep regulatory expertise. A former Commissioner and board member of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and Vice-Chair of the Institute of Directors in Guernsey, she strengthens ethical, sustainable decision-making across the firm.
  • Operational governance: Day-to-day governance, employee wellbeing, and supplier compliance are managed by our Operations Director, Sally Diamond, embedding sustainability and accountability into internal processes.
  • Sustainability oversight: Our Certified ESG Analyst coordinates ESG delivery, internal training, and client projects, ensuring sustainability is embedded throughout operations.
  • Government Economic Model (GEM): Provided on a contractual basis to the States of Guernsey, GEM delivers transparent, data-driven GDP and population forecasts, supporting evidence-based policy and institutional planning. We are working pro-bono to improve access and communicability of the information.
  • Transparency & accountability: Clear reporting, public-facing models, and proactive regulatory engagement reinforce trust and demonstrate our commitment to integrity, ethical practice, and long-term societal impact.

Metrics

Sustainability Metrics

The financial industry has a critical role to play in combating climate change: investment decisions today determine the pace and scale of the low-carbon transition, yet poor-quality or inconsistent climate data often undermines risk management.

Our proprietary carbon and environmental footprint model, Sustainability Metrics, helps investors navigate this challenge by translating complex environmental information into clear, comparable, and actionable insights. Analysing over 30,000 equities and bonds, portfolios powered by the model finance 40–45% fewer emissions per £100 invested than market benchmarks, enabling capital to flow toward lower-carbon, resource-efficient opportunities and supporting systemic climate progress.

Testimonial

“We launched the UK’s first single-issue ESG MPS focused solely on reduced emissions. With nearly £10m now invested, Dorey Financial Modeling’s innovative work provides the robust independent data we need to evidence the Cleaner Future portfolios’ tangibly lower emissions.”

Rick Eling, Managing Director, MKC Invest

Development Goals

Alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our work contributes directly to multiple SDGs:

  • SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): Transparent financial disclosures and modelling build trust in financial systems; As a Guernsey Investment & Funds Association (GIFA) Executive Committee member, Martyn Dorey supports initiatives that foster professional development, inclusion, and investor protection—contributing to building a resilient, well-trained financial workforce and fostering sustainable economic activity
    • 8.2 – Achieve higher levels of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation;
    • 8.10 – Strengthen the capacity of domestic financial institutions to encourage and expand access to banking, insurance, and financial services for all
  • SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure): Governance modelling and evidence-based tools support institutional capacity and infrastructure investment
    • 9.1 – Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure;
    • 9.5 – Enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors, and encourage innovation
  • SDG 13 (Climate Action): Sustainability Metrics enables clients to integrate climate risk into financial decisions and reduce emissions. Our digital-first operations, energy-efficient IT, and clean commuting practices support a low-impact footprint
    • 13.2 – Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies, and planning;
    • 13.3 – Improve education, awareness-raising, and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning
  • SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions): Our Government Economic Model, evidence-based advocacy to the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and rigorous consumer disclosures, strengthen governance, institutional accountability, and stakeholder trust. Martyn Dorey’s appointment as a lay member of the Advocates’ Disciplinary Board demonstrates our commitment to independent oversight, and his analysis identifying gaps where Guernsey law did not align with European human rights legislation — shared with then-sitting Bailiff Sir Richard Collas — illustrates our proactive approach to promoting robust, rights-compliant governance.
    • 16.6 – Develop effective, accountable and transparent institutions at all levels;
    • 16.10 – Ensure public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements
